General notesKrahe Ill. I 70 compares raetoroman. carmûn 'weasel', OHG harmo 'ermine' and assumes Illyrian origin, although this name is unattested in the Balkan region (Lochner 48); Alföldy´s claim of celticity is ill-founded, too. For *garman- / *garo- 'cry' cf. OIr. gáir, W gawr.
