General notes | The alternative reading as Maetona (an otherwise unattested name) is very uncertain. Various more readings have been proposed: Maxiqa (Muchar), Maxiona (Knabl), Matrona (CIL, Alföldy), Magiona (Weber). Due to CIL III,2 the gravestone will have to be inspected again; until then, we will cite the name as Weber´s "Magiona". Alternatively: Magiona for Mogiona, such as Magetiu for *Mogetiu ? |
